The East Tower Nursing Unit Renovation at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California was a comprehensive OSHPD 1, 71,000-square-foot tenant improvement spanning levels 2 through 5 of the hospital’s seven-story East Tower. Completed in October 2015, this $26 million modernization project upgraded infrastructure originally built in 1974 to support contemporary healthcare delivery and patient comfort.
The scope included extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing improvements, seismic retrofitting, elevator modernization, new lighting and controls, as well as ADA-compliant patient room conversions and updated utility headwalls. Electrical work featured the installation of conduit, wiring, and terminations for the HVAC control system, new gear and lighting systems, and conduit and box-only provisions for low-voltage systems.
Each of the four renovated floors now accommodates 37 patient beds, totaling 148 across the tower. Delivered in collaboration with C.W. Driver and Stantec Inc., the project was funded through voter-approved local measures and reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to safe, modern, and patient-focused care environments.
