Project Description

The Palomar Community College Humanities Building is a 91,000-square-foot, three-story, Type II-B steel-framed academic facility constructed in the heart of a busy urban campus. The project included the demolition of existing structures, full site preparation, and comprehensive improvements such as paving, curbs, landscaping, irrigation, drainage, and underground utilities.

This new instructional hub houses classrooms, computer labs, and faculty/staff offices supporting diverse programs including Reading, Writing, English as a Second Language (ESL), Journalism, Speech, American Sign Language, and World Languages. The project also included the construction of a Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and a central plant to support building operations.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the building features an 86 kW rooftop photovoltaic panel array to offset electrical demand, light wells and ample windows for enhanced natural daylighting, and high-efficiency lighting systems with occupancy sensors. These green features contribute to both operational efficiency and an improved learning environment.
