Career growth often starts with curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the right people willing to support you along the way. Since joining Baker as a Project Engineer in 2021, Adam has taken every opportunity to learn from both the office and the field, eventually stepping into a Project Manager role in 2025. His journey reflects the teamwork behind every successful project and the impact mentorship can have on an employee’s career. We caught up with Adam to learn more about his growth at Baker, what Team Baker means to him, and what he’s looking forward to next.
I started at Baker as a PE in 2021. On the office side, I was learning how a project really runs: submittals, RFIs, procurement, chasing down answers, and making sure the field had what they needed. But I also spent as much time as I could with our foremen. I wanted to understand the actual work, not just the paperwork, and learn how Baker does things. I asked a ton of questions and was a fly on the wall for every conversation I could get into.
When I moved into the PM role in 2025, all of that paid off. Now I'm responsible for the whole job: the contract, the money, the schedule, and the relationships with our GCs and owners. The biggest change is how you think. You stop asking, "What's next on my list?" and start asking, "What's coming that could hurt this job, and how do we get ahead of it?" I've had great mentors who gave me room to grow and had my back when I needed it, and I still use what those foremen taught me every day.
To me, nobody wins alone here. A job only goes well when the office, the warehouse, prefab, and the field are all pulling in the same direction. Being employee-owned is a big part of that. Everyone has skin in the game, so people take ownership and look out for each other. Every job gets tough at some point, and when it does, I know I can pick up the phone and someone at Baker will jump in to help.
Be curious and don't be afraid to ask questions. Get out to the jobsite and spend time with the foremen and crews. They know a lot, and most of them will teach you if they see you actually want to learn. Read your contract and specs because the details matter. And own your work. If you say you're going to do something, do it. That's how you build your reputation here.
I'm excited to keep showing people the work we put in place. Our crews take a lot of pride in what they build, and I want owners and GCs to see that up close, whether it's a hospital, a university building, or a public project. I want to keep proving that Baker is the electrical contractor you can count on: we do what we say, we communicate, we solve problems before they become problems, and the finished product speaks for itself.
Every project we finish well builds trust, and that trust is what gets us the next job and grows our presence in LA. I want to be part of that growth, take on bigger and more complex work, and help bring up the next group of PEs the same way the people here brought me up.
Adam’s journey from PE to PM reflects the curiosity, mentorship, and teamwork that have shaped his career at Baker. Now, he’s looking forward to taking on bigger challenges, growing Baker’s presence in LA, and helping the next generation of PEs the same way others helped him. Throughout our conversation, one thing was clear: Adam takes a lot of pride in being part of Team Baker. As he put it, “I’m 100% for Baker, through and through.”
