The Challenge

  • Required to find a subcontractor who could install carport solar on their newly constructed parking facility
  • Needed a subcontractor with design/build capabilities

While constructing a new parking structure for their facilities, BioLegend was required to add carport solar to the structure. They requested bids from renewable energy providers to design & build a system to meet their needs and ultimately chose Baker Electric.

System Specs

Location:    San Diego, CA
System Size:    294 kWs
Number of Panels:    738
Date Commissioned:    February, 2019

The Solution

With trusted partners such as DPR Construction and Hughes Marino, Baker provided a custom designed renewable energy solution with BioLegend’s needs in mind.

After the design was approved, Baker installed a 294 kW system on BioLegend’s newly constructed, 6-story parking structure. That’s enough solar energy to power over 40 average homes in San Diego. The system consisted of 738 solar panels that also provide shade for the vehicles parked on the top level of the structure.

The Results

BioLegend has insulated their business from future utility rate hikes and gained a competitive advantage in their industry by decreasing their operating expense and increasing their margins.

BioLegend took advantage of the federal tax credit and other Federal and State incentives equaling an estimated total system cost savings of $642,000.

Biolegend to save an estimated $2,281,070 on electrical costs over the next 25 years.
