The Sharp Grossmont Hospital H&V Infill Project is a 33,136-square-foot, OSHPD-1 renovation on Level 1 of the hospital’s east, west, and south wings, strategically designed to support the new surgical department expansion. This complex design-build effort modernized key surgical and cardiac vascular facilities within an active, fully occupied hospital environment.
The scope included the construction and renovation of 30 PACU recovery rooms, 15 pre-operative rooms, a sterile processing department, and specialized histology, pathology, and grossing laboratories. Additional areas included airborne infection isolation rooms, specimen collection zones, clean holding rooms, sterile supply storage, a new nurse station, staff and physician lounges, locker rooms, offices, and conference rooms.
The project required highly detailed phasing and coordination with trade partners and medical equipment vendors to maintain continuous hospital operations. New MEP systems, medical gas delivery, and HVAC exhaust systems were installed, with an emphasis on technical precision, infection control, and patient safety. Despite the logistical challenges of building within an occupied surgical floor, the project successfully delivered modern, high-performance clinical environments aligned with Sharp’s patient care mission.
