The new Airfield Control Tower and Operations Facility at March Air Force Base, California is a 23,190-square-foot, 11-level, state-of-the-art structure designed to replace the base’s outdated 1958-era tower. Standing at 130 feet, the new tower significantly enhances the operational capabilities of the airfield and reflects a long-term investment in the sustainability and modernization of military infrastructure.
The facility features a base operations center on the ground level and expands functionality with 4,000 square feet of additional space to accommodate growing personnel and mission demands. New spaces include offices for aircrew intelligence, radar approach control, radar and radio maintenance, and transient alert logistics, as well as crew lounges, break rooms, and office areas. The upgraded facility increases capacity from 29 to 59 personnel, enabling more efficient air traffic coordination and airfield operations.
Designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, the tower incorporates energy-efficient systems and sustainable design principles that align with the U.S. Green Building Council's goals for water conservation, environmental stewardship, and long-term performance. The new control tower not only marks a significant technological and operational upgrade but also stands as a symbol of continued collaboration and joint readiness at March Air Force Base.
