October 26, 2018, San Diego, CA – Baker Electric, a full-service electric, solar and storage contractor serving Southern California, completed a 656.64 kW rooftop solar project this past summer for the Pomona location of Valley Indoor Swap Meet (VISM), just in time to harness peak solar savings. The project is part of VISM’s ongoing effort to not only combat continually rising electricity costs, but to also help in the fight against climate change. The new solar system is guaranteed to produce more than 547,700 kWh total in the next 20 years, equivalent to offsetting the carbon dioxide emissions of 446,032 pounds of burned coal.
“Valley Indoor Swap Meet desired solar not only because they were facing rising utility bills, but also to be a part of the solution,” said Troy Strand, Director Renewable Energy Solutions for Baker Electric. “They proactively moved forward with renewable energy generation to compete with climate change.”
The new solar project is estimated to save VISM more than $150,000 in electricity costs within the first year alone—an 81 percent reduction in overall energy consumption. Those numbers will add up to a net savings of more than $5.3 million over the course of the modules’ 25-year life warranty. VISM wanted to tap into the solar savings as soon as possible, and in less than six months the Pomona renewable energy system was up and running.
“It worked out great,” said Ron Wolfe, co-owner and CFO for VISM. “Baker is very efficient and responsible. I have nothing but good things to say about the company.”
VISM’s energy renovation project began eight years ago when the owners decided to upgrade the indoor and outdoor lighting of both the Pomona and Panorama City locations to LED. Following the new lighting installations was a complete overhaul of the air conditioning system, completed in just a couple of years. The state-of-the-art rooftop solar system from Baker topped off the renovations.
Baker’s skilled team of engineers, electricians, consultants and project managers were influential in VISM’s decision when selecting a solar company.
“We were most impressed with [Baker] because of the team they brought together,” said Wolfe. “We have high expectations. So far the numbers look very good, and we’re very happy with Baker as a contractor.”
