St. Patrick Catholic School Rejuvenated by Renovations and A New Baker Electric Solar System

“The solar system is projected to provide more than $1.45 million in net savings to the school and church over the 25-year warrantied life of the solar modules. It’s great to know these funds will go toward furthering academic success for thousands of students for years to come.” – Scott Williams, Vice President of Baker Electric

San Diego, CA (October 10, 2018) – Baker Electric, a full-service solar, electric and storage contractor for the Southern California area, recently installed a new 173.16 kW DC turnkey rooftop solar system for St. Patrick Catholic School, a part of the St. Patrick Catholic Community in Carlsbad, at no cost to the school. The project follows the school’s recent construction overhaul, and will provide St. Patrick with an estimated $12,985 in net savings within the first year of operation.St. Patrick Catholic School exterior

The solar installation became part of the renovation plan for the school, which began when permits for the school’s modular units could not be renewed with the City of Carlsbad. St. Patrick opted instead to renovate the existing facility and construct a brand-new administrative building and two-story teaching facility. Baker assisted St. Patrick with securing new construction permits for the solar system once the initial building construction was complete, and St. Patrick was harnessing clean energy in less than five months.

“We had a very tight timeline in the construction process,” said Jim Nye, Business Manager for St. Patrick Catholic School. “The timeline for the installation was through the summer months when the school was vacant, and Baker did a great job of working with the city to get the permits.”

The school, church and administrative building are now drawing clean power from the solar system. Baker helped St. Patrick design, engineer and construct the turnkey system, ensuring it will operate properly moving forward. The long-term performance guarantee and included preventative maintenance provided by the financing company provides an added layer of insurance. Monitoring the system’s production throughout the lifetime of the modules is a part of the no-cost contract.

“The one thing that I have been very impressed with is the lines of communication and the education that Baker has provided all along,” said Nye.

The solar system was financed via a power purchase agreement (PPA) and is estimated to reduce St. Patrick’s energy consumption by at least 57 percent annually. These savings will allow the school to focus more resources on other important projects that benefit its more than 450 yearly students, upholding its mission to continually provide academic excellence.

“The St. Patrick solar project is in direct alignment with our values of ‘Education is Our Business’ and championing environmental stewardship,” said Scott Williams, Vice President of Baker Electric. “The solar system is projected to provide more than $1.45 million in net savings to the school and church over the 25-year warrantied life of the solar modules. It’s great to know these funds will go toward furthering academic success for thousands of students for years to come.”
