Safety First! Every Task Every Day
At Baker Electric, we don’t just wear t-shirts printed with “Safety First! Every Task Every Day” - we live it. Our employees and partners share an obligation to prevent accidents and conduct business in a way that actively integrates our safety and health program into every aspect of our operations. We are proud that Cal/OSHA recognized our exceptional efforts.
Cal/OSHA Recognition
Cal/OSHA gave formal recognition to Baker Electric’s “managers and employees [who] demonstrated a commitment to continuously improve the effectiveness of its workplace safety and health management system.” For its outstanding leadership in safety, Baker Electric was awarded the prestigious Golden Gate Partnership Recognition Award November 2008. Our leadership in safety has also helped us maintain one of the lowest Experience Modification Rates in the industry.
Experience Modification Rate (X-Mod)
The Baker Electric Safety Experience Modification Rating (EMR) holds a five year average of 0.87 with a low EMR of 0.65 (2008). Compared to the industry average of 1.0, Baker Electric’s EMR is significantly lower than its competition. We have achieved a low EMR through developing and maintaining an effective safety system, claims management program and by creating a lasting safety culture.
Safety Culture
We believe that training and safety awareness are our greatest tools in working safe. Our Safety Program includes a Code of Safe Practices, IIPP, HAZCOM, and strictly enforced Substance Abuse Program. Our cross functional Safety Council also helps formulate safety policies that reach across the organization. Finally, the Baker Electric ongoing Safety Rewards program gives each employee the opportunity for recognition for working safely throughout the year.
We hold new employee orientation, foremen orientation, random jobsite auditing, a disciplinary action program, monthly program evaluation, and regular foreman, superintendent and management meetings, weekly safety "tailgate" meetings and training sessions, monthly safety committee meetings, quarterly foremen meetings, and pre-job planning conferences with management. Our Superintendents regularly inspect the job sites and each month senior management reviews company wide safety program performance.
Through a wide range of training, education, and communication at all levels of our organization, we are able to actively manage incident rates and hold aggressive company goals well below industry standards. As a result of this investment in our people, our safety record has improved every year, and is consistently better than construction industry statistics. This demonstrated management strength, directly benefits your project through productivity and cost savings.
