PG - BES Project Development Engineer

The Solar Project Development Engineer will work alongside the Baker Electric Inc. (BEI) senior management team identifying and pursuing commercial, industrial and institutional solar project opportunities. These opportunities will come from within BEI’s core customer base as well as newly pursued relationships. The Solar Project Development Engineer will captain and perform all aspects of solar project definition (primarily a design-build process) as well as be willing and able to professionally interface with all stakeholders in the process including the customer.

Requirements:

  • 5 years minimum relevant experience (construction industry experience preferred)
  • Engineering degree in a related field (mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, etc) or architectural degree is desirable
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to work with a team of highly focused individuals to a final goal
  • Applicants must have strong computer software skills in: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and AutoCAD
  • Willingness to represent our company with integrity at all times

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and oversee all aspects of commercial solar projects within the project development stage including leading the sales process of each opportunity.
  • Generate solar system proposals: ability to analyze utility bills and rate structures, determine optimum sizing of the solar system, generate system layouts and perform field investigation as necessary.
  • Function as an expert in knowledge of solar related equipment; panels, inverters, structures, racking, and monitoring.
  • Perform financial analysis of proposed systems and determine paybacks.
  • Coordinate/interface with engineering resources as well as possessing sufficient National Electrical Code knowledge.
  • Consult with customers to gain additional project insight, and travel to project sites as necessary to ensure complete and accurate proposals are developed.
  • Establish and maintain schedules. Ensure timely issuance of deliverables through monitoring the flow of information and design process.
  • Participate in project presentations and lead the proposal generation activity.
  • Attend pre-bid job meetings and site surveys when required.
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships with current and prospective solar customers.
  • Interface with the internal BEI groups within the solar sales and bidding process, and maintain strong communication with internal parties and with external customers throughout the bid/project development phase of each project.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships within BEI assisting and supporting them in leveraging existing company relationships into increased business opportunities.
  • Facilitate complete, accurate and detailed hand-offs to the operations team fully supporting their efforts in delivering a successful solar project.

The Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying, developing and maintaining customer relationships within Baker Electric’s (BEI) Construction Group core market segments and customer base. The Director is responsible for bringing valid project opportunities into the company and he/she will captain the sales process of each opportunity selected. This position requires an allocation of effort between a specific focus on project opportunities/sales as well as an overall focus on business development and company positioning. In essence this position is tasked with finding new customers and securing profitable business opportunities for the company.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years experience in sales and marketing, preferably in the construction industry, with a proven track record of developing and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Prior experience as a Senior Project Manager/Estimator in the Construction industry; an Engineering or Construction Management degree is desirable.
  • The candidate must have a natural ability to engage in business relationships with individuals and groups, and a willingness to utilize and improve his/her talents to build customer relationships.
  • The candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be energetic and a self-starter.
  • The successful candidate shall have raw intelligence, a willingness to learn, tenacity, strong organizational skills, and excellent work habits with a willingness to represent our company with integrity at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Executive group in defining and pursing target markets and customers through market analysis, marketing strategies, positioning and teaming within customer and A/E consultant relationships.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of BEI’s business objectives so that the concept of “Why Baker?” can be effectively sold to external customers.
  • Lead promotional actions reaching existing and potential clients on all of the following levels: Senior Project Manager/Estimator, Project Executive/Director, Vice-President and Owner.
  • Identify, develop and maintain customer relationships with current and prospective general contracting customers and industry decision makers.
  • Through customer base, identify and develop electrical construction opportunities that meet BEI’s minimum standards. Consult with customers to gain additional project insight.
  • Lead the sales process of each opportunity that is selected as a primary target for the Construction Group through project pursuit, customer pursuit and strategic deal chasing.
  • Engage the project groups and Preconstruction resources in the sales and bidding process, and maintain strong communication with internal parties and external customers throughout the bid phase of each project with a focus of championing the competitive advantage pursuit required to win the business.
  • Travel to project sites to ensure complete proposals, work with estimators to prepare the scope of work, and review design development.
  • Ensure timely issuance of deliverables through monitoring the flow of information and design process.
  • Assist in producing project budgets with primary responsibility to track and manage the project and budget from the conceptual phase through construction documents.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships within BEI Operations and Estimating staff, assisting and supporting them in leveraging existing company relationships into increased business opportunities.
  • Champion and lead the company initiative to develop and promote a sales culture within the organization.
  • Manage marketing program and marketing material development.
