Baker believes in hiring a local workforce; generally these individuals come directly from the local union. This strategy has proven itself over and over again by insuring that the workers are correctly trained for the work. It also fosters community involvement since it preserves local employment opportunities. An added benefit is that it reduces the environmental impact of commuting and saves on per diem that would otherwise be charged against a project.
Why Union? Union workers are better trained and more skilled than many of the non-union workers. They save costs by making less mistakes, building a better product, and by providing a better service, they adhere to both Baker and union standards.
